With early, gentle socialization, Shih Tzus are wonderful around children, strangers, and other animals. They’re confident without being yappy and playful without being demanding — a balance that makes them a joy to live with.
A few things to know
Because they’re so people-oriented, Shih Tzus thrive on company and can develop separation anxiety if left alone too long. They don’t need much exercise — a short walk and some playtime is plenty — which makes them equally at home in apartments or sprawling Texas backyards.
